Graphic Design

Graphic design (also referred to as graphics design) can be a noun, and a verb! It not only refers to the creative process, but also to the end result. Graphic design is a pretty simple concept - actually, it breaks down into a few simple parts that make it easy to understand - the Client, the Designer, the Message, and the Audience.

The Client is the person or persons looking to deliver the Message to the Audience. A Client can be as small as an individual looking to deliver an album cover design (the Message) to his fans (the Audience), and as large as an entire company looking to redo their business identity (the Message) to reach a different or larger group of customers (the Audience).

The Designer is the person or persons that assist the Client in delivering the message effectively. The Designer can be anywhere from a one-person show operating out of a basement to a large Design firm operating on a campus.

The Message is what the Client is trying to say. The Message can also be seen in its final format as the Design, depending on who is looking at it. The Message serves some sort of key purpose to the Client, and is generally intended to increase profit directly or indirectly (through getting the word out, increased brand awareness, etc).

The Audience is the group that the Client is trying to reach. Generally, the Client and Designer work together to research and identify the Audience, so that the Message can be targeted correctly. If the Client has customers that are primarily teenagers, then the Message should be designed accordingly. Audiences can be broad, and also very specific depending on who the Client is trying to speak to.

It is through the creative process of graphic design that all the parties mentioned above benefit - the Client benefits through increased profit and brand strengthening, the Audience benefits through increased awareness of great products and services, and of course, the Designer benefits because they're getting to do what they love to do! And yes, they usually get paid, too.

At LovelyPixels, we make not only the result - but also the experience - a Lovely one. After all, we aren't OrdinaryPixels, we're LovelyPixels.
