Collaborating for Community

LovelyPixels & Hersick+Webster are Teaming Up for Community Projects

Back in January, I wrote a short blog about the many “ah-ha moments” I had as a small business owner during 2017. The lessons I learned from my first year as a brick and mortar studio really pushed me to dig deep on core values I perceived to be necessary for my business’ survival, and how I interpreted the abundance of opportunities and failures from the year.

“It’s amazing what kind of magic happens when you decide to not only work with other businesses, but share resources….When you leverage each other in a way that bolsters better community, everyone wins. Find ways to co-host events, kickstart community projects and share marketing resources so that everyone in the neighborhood benefits from positive growth.”

Lesson number four from my post was directly related to the interconnections between our studio, and those people across the street (figuratively and literally) that do the same things we do. They’re competitors right? Do I avoid the same circles they’re in? Do I seek out the same circles?

It’s intimidating and daunting to get sucked into the paranoia filled abyss that is traditional “kill or be killed” business culture. So, we’re refusing to do it.

What is this community design partnership all about?

First and foremost, we just had to practice what we preach. When we’re working side by side with the small businesses in our hometown or abroad, we always champion for collaboration between the client and the community anchor points that surround them.

Whether that means co-hosting events with the shop next door, or having heart-to-hearts about the struggles you’re having with the guy down the street (who you “just know is stealing all of your best ideas”). We don’t have to be competitive with one another to the point where we are isolating ourselves and limiting our resources to improve community.

Secondly, we have a strong creative community in Martinsburg that people can trust.

One that helps students figure out if this industry is right for them. A group of thinkers that share ideas and treat each other as trusted friends, uplifting and challenging each other to be, do and serve better. Or hell, one that just gets together every now and then to talk about geeky things and swap designer horror stories about that new client who uses Comic Sans in their corporate emails (yeah, you know who you are).

Thirdly (is that a word)? We just get along really well and who doesn’t need a tribe to lean on every now and then? Come on guys, kum-ba-ya’s all around!

Who benefits from it?

Well, we all do.

You, the client, gets access to three reputable designers who all bring to the table their own specialties. This mixology of skills, background, experience and style means that your projects get unmatched attention and creative spark that will serve your business or organization. Think big picture marketing and design that functions to overcome geographical, social and technical barriers to bolster every aspect of how you do business.

We, the designers, get to support more local movers and shakers, that go on to make impactful contributions to the local scene. Be that in helping a startup get off the ground and serve the community through their NPO service, or rebranding and providing marketing support to an existing business that needs to push growth beyond county and state lines. It all trickles down to helping our home state, surrounding counties and neighbors have a better quality of life.

What makes it work?

You do.

We’re driven by passion and honest work. This partnership goes beyond just two design studios working together. It’s a round-table that includes you, your staff, the board, your buyers and your future prospects. This conglomeration of talent strives to cultivate relationships that go beyond just doing business, allowing us to work together to create phenomenal marketing that engages people.

We know that you want more than just quality design. You want someone that fits your culture and demands. Even though we have some pretty rave reviews, we know that our studio is not the best fit for everyone. That’s why we start each partnership with an introduction over coffee (or beer – we’ll leave that up to you).
